On Tuesday afternoon I went with Study group #2 to Household Hazardous Products. We looked at the labels of various household cleaning products and quickly realized few of them actually list the ingredients! This was surprising to us. We compared this to what is shown on food labels and speculated as to why there was a difference. Then, each pair of students were given the chance to use chocolate syrup, ketchup, mustard and other items to make stains on a piece of carpet. That was a lot of fun!
The groups started using a variety of natural and chemical cleaners to see what would work best. This group definitely challenged the "oh we can definitely clean these up to look like new" commentary from our leader. In the end, we are told the white vinegar and baking soda make excellent natural cleaners, and reduce the environmental impact of disposing of chemicals. And that got us back to our question. Why aren't these ingredients labeled? We found a phone number one of the bottles and decided to call the company. Andrew was our spokesman and did an excellent job! Turns out this is a list of the ingredients on that bottle we called about.
So, let's pledge to use more natural cleaners, OK?
